The Mercedes has launched their plans of releasing the next generation of the Benz GLS class. The car is going to make its entry into the auto market as 2017 Mercedes GLS. Representing the third generation of this model, the vehicle will feature an elegant full-size SUV design. The concept was launched during the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show and after two successful model years, the manufacturer is expecting to continue its legacy. Actually, the upcoming 2017 Benz GLS is just a mid-level facelift of the second generation GL-Class and therefore, consumers should expect few but elegant updates. Expect new and better engine performance, including a diesel variant. Other updates include a refreshed exterior and an overhauled interior. The car is going to face competition from other upcoming top models including Cadillac Escalade and Audi Q7. The 2017 Mercedes GLS will be offered in up to four trim levels including the base GLS350d, GLS450 model, GLS550 model and the top of the class, GLS63 model.
2017 Mercedes GLS – What a Look!
Featuring a stylish 4-door layout, this car is presumably the largest SUV in the line of GLS model. The exterior chassis is made of a combination of high-strength steel and lightweight aluminum materials. The lightweight body structure will enhance the car’s aerodynamic performance. The front end for the 2017 Mercedes GLS is almost similar to that of its predecessor, with a more aggressive bumper and larger air intakes to enhance engine cooling.
A new grille with sharper upper edges and twin-slat horizontal shape have also been introduced. The new bullet-shaped headlamps feature LED strips and new clusters while the new hood is accented by a pair of power domes. The rear end appears sportier with LED tail lamps, dual exhaust system, and a more streamlined lower bumper. The new Benz GLS will ride on 21-inch alloy wheels. This will enhance its off-road performance.
Take a luxurious trip with the new 2017 Mercedes GLS, thanks to its comfortable and spacious cabin. Comfort is enhanced by a standard leather upholstery on all the seats. Power- folding third-row seats allow for more cargo space. The car comes with an updated infotainment system featuring modern instrument cluster with a new center console. The new center console now comes with a configurable high-resolution 8-inch touchscreen that enables the front passenger to navigate through the infotainment system.
Other standard interior equipment includes automated climate control, air-conditioner, premium sound system with satellite radio, USB port interface, MP3/ MP4/CD player, Bluetooth smartphone and audio configuration. Among the GLS’s list of driver assistance and safety features include premium safety belts and airbags, parking assist, line departure warning system, collision prevention, responsive navigation control and others.
2017 Mercedes GLS – Engine Performance:
There are four powertrains lined up for the upcoming 2017 Mercedes GLS concept. The base engine fitted for the GLS450 is a 3.0- liter twin-turbocharged V-6 DOHC motor, which is capable of delivering up to 362 hp at 360 lb-ft of torque. The second engine is the GLS350d’s 3.0-liter turbocharged DOHC diesel motor rated at about 255 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The GLS550 come with 449hp and V8 engine. These engines come with a standard 9-speed automatic transmission that will send power to all the four wheels (AWD).
The GLS63 comes with the top performance engine, which is a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 DOHC motor. This is capable of delivering up to around 600 hp at 570 lb-ft of torque. Power will be sent to a four-wheel drive system via 7-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration for the four drivetrains ranges between 4.6 seconds to 7.3 seconds, for 0-60 mph achievement. Top speed is rated at 130-160 miles per hour.
2017 Mercedes GLS – Dispatch Date and Price Expected:
The German car manufacturer has not yet announced the official release date and costs for this upcoming car. However, consumers are anticipating that the 2017 Mercedes GLS will be released towards the end of this year or in the first quarter of 2017. Estimated base price ranges between $67,000 for the entry trim level and $124,000 for the top GLS63 model.
