The new model was showcased for the first time at the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show. According to the Japanese automobile manufacturer, the production model will be called Honda D Concept and will target the China market. The automaker is motivated to produce this mid-size luxury SUV after getting better returns from its other SUVs.
Honda D Concept – Features and Design:
There is a high likelihood that the upcoming crossover SUV will be based on the same platform as the CR-V. This existing model has a light but stiff body contributed by the use of both light and tough materials. According to the available photos, the new car looks quite sporty with elegant lines & overtures and smart curves everywhere.
The grill that’s fused with headlamps is one of the major highlights in the front end of the Honda D Concept. These parts are complemented by massive air intakes and daytime running lights. In the rear end, the concept sports long taillights and a magnificent tailgate with a large wing atop it. Other exterior features of interest include 19-inch alloy wheels, sharply-raked windows, and a floating roof.
The interior of the Honda D Concept is pretty welcoming with a stunning color scheme and sporty cabin components. Some high-quality materials like aluminum, carbon fiber, and leather trim are presented in the class cabin. Being a mid-size SUV, the car is designed to fit 5 passengers and their little luggage. The dashboard carries most of the car’s technological features. There are a large touchscreen and both manual & digital controls in the center console. The production model is expected to feature a heating & cooling system, a satellite navigation system, a premium sound system and a number of connectivity options such as USB port, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Smartphone integration.
Honda D Concept – Engine Specifications:
There will be no new engine for the upcoming mid-size SUV. The carmaker will equip it with the CR-V’s powertrain: 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC I4 and 2,4-liter options. This engine comes with features such as Earth Dreams Technology, direct fuel injection, and R+ mechanism.
As for the transmission system, the engine will be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission which will move power to the rear wheels. Concerning speeds, the car will have an estimated top speed of 125 mph and will take around 6.0 seconds to achieve the 0-60 mph acceleration. With the above-mentioned engine features, there is no doubt that the vehicle will be good in terms of fuel economy and eco-friendliness. You can look forward to fuel consumption figures estimated at 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.
Safety & Security:
Honda cars are above average when it comes to safety and security. We expect the new car to record good safety and security statistics when it hits the road. As for protection features, you can look forward to airbags, hill start assists, lane keep assist, seat belts, rearview camera, ABS, security alarms, vehicle stability assist and adaptive cruise control.
Honda D Concept – Possible Arrival Date and MSRP:
The manufacturer’s suggested retail price will be around $21,000 for a model with standard equipment. The most expensive model will retail at $30,000. The car manufacturer started the production work in April 2016, so the first bunch of cars might be available in the last quarter of the same year.
